BROKENSHIRE COLLEGE ONE OF THE NATIONAL TOP PERFORMING SCHOOLS OFFERING BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING IN 2009: CHEd“The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) announced last Tuesday the top – performing schools offering Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs in the country for 2009” (FEU, CEU top nursing schools, Manila Bulletin, June 1, 2010 issue) The schools included in the list were schools that got a rate higher than 40.70% which is the national passing average set by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC). CHEd classified the schools by range, namely Range 1, Range 2 and Range 3. These ranges are identified through the number of examination takers. Under Range 1 are schools that have 1,000 and above takers, Range 2 are schools with 100 to 999 takers and Range 3 are schools with 10 to 99 takers. Brokenshire College was the 12th school under Range 1 (1,000 and above takers) with 649 passers out of the 1, 456 exam takers equivalent to 44. 57%. There were 16 schools listed under Range 1 and only two schools from Davao City were included in the list, Brokenshire College the 12th school under Range 1 with 649 passers out of the 1, 456 exam takers equivalent to 44. 57%.and Davao Doctors College who was the 14th school under Range 1 with 784 passers out of the 1,805 takers equivalent to 43.43%. On the other hand, 20 schools were listed under Range 2 and another 21 schools were under Range 3. In the announcement the names of the 253 low – performing nursing schools were also released still based on the national passing average of 40.70% for the licensure examinations that PRC administered last June and November 2009. According to CHEd Chairman Emmanuel Angeles, this initiative is a part of CHEd’s commitment to monitor and evaluate the performance of nursing schools nationwide and to ensure the quality of nursing education in the country. He further added that, this aims to aide parents and students in deciding which schools could provide them quality education and their money’s worth.
