We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership between Brokenshire College in Davao, Philippines, and the Graduate School of Practical Theology (GSPT) in South Korea. This collaboration was officially marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on January 17, 2025, at the office of Dr. Youngsang Ro, President of GSPT.
Representing Brokenshire College were our College President Bishop Hamuel G. Tequis, our Chaplain Rev. Grace Bangisan, Program Head of our Theology Department, Rev. Dr. Romeo Estabillo, Vice President for Finance, Ms. Kimberly Pavino, and Rev. Roderick Raut, Theology Professor. This historic event signifies a new chapter for both institutions, focused on sharing ideas and best practices in theology and education.

One of the most exciting aspects of this partnership is the fresh perspective GSPT brings to practical theology. Their concept of β€œTheology for Practice” emphasizes making theology relevant in the everyday lives of people. This approach challenges the traditional notion that mission work is confined to church and pastoral activities.
As an institution owned by the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP), Brokenshire College offers a diverse range of programs, including Nursing, Medicine, Psychology, and other Allied Health courses. This partnership encourages us to view the entire academic program as a form of mission, integrating theological principles with health and healing.

The partnership with GSPT aligns perfectly with Brokenshire College's evolving identity. The expertise of GSPT will help us explore how theology and health can work together, especially in our post-pandemic society. The concept of β€œMissio Dei” (Mission of God) being applicable to all aspects of life, including health, reflects a modern and holistic approach to mission work.

The importance of integrating health and faith is echoed in a recent editorial from the World Council of Churches (WCC). The article highlights how faith communities worldwide have adapted to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the role of religion in promoting health and combating harmful social norms.
Faith leaders play a crucial role in addressing health-related challenges and offering hope and healing. The history of Christian involvement in health care, from the early church to modern times, demonstrates the transformative power of faith in addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

This partnership with GSPT opens new doors for Brokenshire College to explore the interconnectedness of theology and health.
We are confident that this collaboration will bring immense benefits to our institution and contribute to a more holistic understanding of mission work in today's world.
Let us embrace this opportunity to grow and learn together, fostering a community where theology and health go hand in hand, and where the mission of God extends to all aspects of life.
