Academic Load

No student, unless given permission by the Dean, is permitted to take more than the required load as prescribed by the curriculum in a semester for any course. An extra load is granted if the requester is a candidate for graduation, but only during the regular semester. Requests for opening of subjects are only allowed for graduating students.

Class Attendance

Students are expected to attend their officially enrolled classes.

To bridge the knowledge gap in professional nursing subjects, a student is required to undergo make-up sessions and pay the corresponding charges.

Requests for excused absences must be made to the Dean of the College and processed within three (3) days after the last day of absence.

Excessive absences beyond 20% of the total number of hours for a course in a semester or summer will cause the student to be dropped regardless of reason.

Tardiness beyond 15 minutes, or leaving the class after attendance checking and not returning, is considered absent. Three (3) instances of tardiness beyond 15 minutes are equivalent to one (1) absence.

If an instructor does not arrive on time, students must wait for 15 minutes and then inform the Dean for further instruction.

For absences related to official academic or extra-curricular activities, an excuse slip must be secured from the Dean's office.

Academic Probation and Dismissal

It is the student’s responsibility to meet the academic standards of the college.

A student shall be placed under academic probation when:

  • WPA is lower than 80% in 1st or 2nd year; and
  • Grade is lower than 85% in professional subjects in board courses during 3rd or 4th year.

Academic probation is allowed for only one (1) school year.

A student under academic probation:

  • may be required to repeat certain subjects and/or carry a reduced load;
  • is ineligible to represent the College in public appearances, activities, or office;
  • if failing to attain the required WPA, is barred from further enrollment in the same program but may enroll in another program.

Grading System

The grading system for all courses is numerical, ranging from 65% to 100%. A student who obtains a grade lower than 75% must repeat the course.

Assessment Components (Lecture & Laboratory):

  • Exams – 40%
  • Quizzes – 40%
  • Other Course Requirements – 20%

Overall Grade for Subjects with Laboratory:

  • Lecture – 60%
  • Laboratory – 40%

Final grades are the average of Prelim, Midterm, Pre-final, and Final. Students have five (5) working days after final exams to complete requirements, otherwise a failing grade is given.

Weighted Percentage Average (WPA)

WPA is the sum of ratings multiplied by the number of units, divided by the total number of units.

Formula:

WPA = (R1 × U1 + R2 × U2 + ...) ÷ Total Units

Example:

  • GE 1: 93 × 3 = 279
  • GE 2: 90 × 3 = 270
  • NCM 100: 90 × 3 = 270
  • MC 1: 89 × 5 = 445
  • PE 1: 95 × 2 = 190

Total Units: 16
Total Score: 1445
WPA: 1445 ÷ 16 = 90.31

NSTP rating is not included in WPA.

Descriptive Equivalent:

  • 96–100 – Excellent
  • 91–95 – Superior
  • 86–90 – Above Average
  • 80–85 – Average
  • 76–79 – Below Average
  • 75 – Fair/Passing
