Hosted by the National Service Training Program (NSTP) through the students of the Psychology Department, Brokenshire College successfully conducted a Mental Health Awareness Seminar on March 14, 2024. The event was specially designed for college student-athletes, recognizing the unique mental and emotional challenges they face in balancing academics, training, and competition.
The seminar featured Ms. Melbourne Cortes, RPsy, as the esteemed resource speaker. Ms. Cortes shared valuable insights on mental health management, stress coping strategies, and the importance of maintaining emotional resilience amid the demands of both sports and academics. Her discussion emphasized that mental health is just as vital as physical health in achieving overall well-being and peak performance.
Through interactive discussions and reflective activities, student-athletes were encouraged to acknowledge their mental health needs and to seek support when necessary. The event also underscored Brokenshire College’s continued commitment to promoting holistic student development—fostering not only intellectual and physical growth but also emotional and psychological wellness.
As the session concluded, participants were reminded of a powerful message: “Let’s prioritize mental well-being together.”
